hi

tonight i wanted to do a research on the site as my windows update doesn't install anything anymore:
it downloads righfully then i find an error 8024000C in the log file
i hoped to find a diag tool here

i understand why the new rules but
before the loss in the forum i had the required number of posts.....

i tried to clean the registry, so a question:
jv16 power tools says i have 112 keys which are not good

why does ccleaner and regscrub do not list them?

regards

(i will try an external search by google as the Wu problem is uncool.)

The reason that some cleaners don't detect certain things and others do because they use different methods for detecting problems. That will explain why some scanners detect the errors and others don't.

As for your error with Windows Update i am not sure but i will run a search for you when i get up tomorrow... currently 12:00 pm and i am falling asleep at the keyboard.

Hopefully another member will be able to help you with this problem when i am asleep wink.gif

About the forum loss unfortunately there was nothing we could do, the backups we attempted to use refused to work so we had to revert back to a backup that was from a while ago.

JV16 is entries are quite safe to delete. It's known to have a very comprehensive scan compared to other registry cleaners so I'm not surprised that it managed to detect more than the other freeware tools. There used to be a comparison chart which showed JV16 ahead of the pack but it's no longer available since JV16 went retailware.

I've searched for that Windows Update error in both The Windows knowledgebase and Technet and found....nothing. Not very common. Please contact Microsoft for email support:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?Gprid=6794
The response time is 1 business day.

Oh...and the 10 post requirement is very light. lol - It'll only take a couple of minutes if you put your mind to it biggrin.gif

thanks guys!

hope you had a good sleep jelli without too much broken computer dreams biggrin.gif .

thanks for your help, i would be glad if you found something, as i did some research before posting, and that does not seem easy...

in many french and english language forums people just put the looooong log in the forum so there are hits on the problem but no solution...

thanks coathanger for the link i submitted the problem to microsoft so let's wait.

i agree for the light number of posts, and will have soon the required, i have enough things to say here biggrin.gif ,

but that will be slightly more difficult to know if something has already be discussed elsewhere...

i believe the search feature should stay open to beginners, the first contact with a forum, specially when you come to it because of a serious problem in your computer , and are in a hurry, is crucial. call that marketing if you want. wink.gif

cool.gif

Actually what's the "safe rule" of using JV16 and CM DiskCleaner? Is it really safe to delete the entries in the green mark found in the registry cleaner tools of JV16? Coz I am a bit worried that I might delete something that was needed by some programs but considered useless by these two cleaner programs. The nos. of useless files it founds in my pc is so huge and I doubt if they are really needed to be deleted. I just delete some that I really have recognized that was not already existent programs.

I have already used RegScrub XP, CleanCache and NTREGOPT regularly. rolleyes.gif

From my experience all green entries are safe to delete. I have so many entries it would waste too much time checking out every one. Both programs come with a backup feature. The worst thing that has ever happened is that I lost settings for bginfo but these were easily restored. And temp files will recreate themselves. Right clicking the registry entry in question will generally show you which program it refers to. If any entry has N/A and you want to play it safe then don't delete it. Both programs also come with help files with FAQs you might like to refer to wink.gif

Another registry editor ...

This little app isn't exactly freeware but if you read my review you'll see that you may be able to get a free copy of it.

RegMagiK

It's very similar to RegistrarLite and I feel it's just a tad bit better.

Thanks for the heads up Clif. I've fixed the link. Same thing happened to me. decentdownloads.com and freewareforum.com were grabbed by someone else as soon as my sites became popular. I'm sticking with x-istence thanks smile.gif

Their mail was a request for the export file of all my computer's information

They did Not warn me but i saw all my filenames, including "my documents" content listing...!!!! which i removed...

the name of people i write to has nothing to learn to a microsoft tech about the bugs in their softs...

i sent them the technical part of the 900 pages!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all,

I've got a question re: registry. I used jv16 power tools to uninstall softwares and clean out the registry but when I run regedit, I see many parts of the software still located in the HKEY-CLASS-ROOT. I'm a novice and manually modifying the registry is beyond my ability. So the question is:

Does it mean I didn't remove them properly?
Is there any software that can remove these stubborn parts?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

If you do not want to see the entry in your registy, just do a search , then delete all the items. In fact, this is not very necessary, Because they are text format, just very small.
