It's not hard to set up a website these days. Firstly you need a domain name and hosting. I recommend godaddy.com for hosting and http://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?246051/hosting.html simply because you get so much for so little! Where else can you get 145.6 GB space and 1.456 TB bandwidth for only $7.95/mth? Most of my sites have been hosted by these guys for the past year. Sure, there are downtimes but the response time has been quite impressive. So here are some free resources you can use to set up your site. Coppermine Photo Gallery Coppermine is a multi-purpose fully-featured and integrated web picture gallery script written in PHP using GD or ImageMagick as image library with a MySQL backend. Coppermine is free software which you can download and install on your webspace. http://coppermine-gallery.net/ phpBB Forum Since its creation in 2000, phpBB has become the most widely used Open Source forum solution. Like its predecessors, phpBB 3.0 “Olympus” has an easy to use administration panel and a user friendly installation process, which allows you to have a forum set up in minutes. With a large and highly customisable set of key features coupled with a standards compliant interface, phpBB will grow with, and compliment your website. With millions of installations worldwide, it is no wonder phpBB is one of the most popular ways to create and support a community. http://www.phpbb.com/ Aardvark PHP Topsites Aardvark Topsites PHP is a free topsites script built on PHP and MySQL. It is licensed under the GNU General Public License so it will always remain completely free. Its functionality compares favorably with other free and commercial scripts. http://www.aardvarktopsitesphp.com/ osCommerce osCommerce is an Open Source based online shop e-commerce solution that is available for free under the GNU General Public License. It features a rich set of out-of-the-box online shopping cart functionality that allows store owners to setup, run, and maintain their online stores with minimum effort and with no costs, fees, or limitations involved. osCommerce has attracted the largest community for an e-commerce solution that consists of over 144,600 store owners and developers worldwide with add-ons being contributed on a daily basis. To date there are over 4,100 add-ons available that have been created by the community to extend the features of an osCommerce online store. osCommerce combines Open Source solutions to provide a free and open e-commerce platform, which includes the powerful PHP web scripting language and the fast MySQL database server. With no special requirements, osCommerce is able to run on any PHP 4.1+ enabled web server running on Linux, Solaris, BSD, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows environments. http://www.oscommerce.com/ Open Source Web Designs Open Source Web Design is a site to download free web design templates and share yours with others.
