Free Copernic version 3 has does not have some features found in the free 2 version. Copernic discussion Copernic has replaced 2 on most sites it seems, but I found one where you can still download Copernic version 2 build 18. If you wish a copy with features that Copernic removed in version 2 here: Copernic version 2 build 18 -------------------- saint satin stain

Thanks for letting us know SSS Probably all of us have recommended freeware. We should check the status of that freeware. And the Copernic example should be a warning that when freeware offers an upgrade we should investigate before upgrading. -------------------- saint satin stain

I decided to check the link I gave you above for Copernic; they changed it, it only downloads the new version. If you didn't
download it, too late. I wil do a new search for the old version. Some backwater site may have it. QUOTE Version 3.0 - Build 74 – September 3, 2008 * Now split in three categories: "Free" (with ads), Professional and Corporate. * Free version no longer includes the following features: o Searching network shares o Searching Outlook appointments, tasks and notes; o Saved searches o Search as you type o Ability to keep preview pane on the Right o Incremental find * Includes advertising in preview pane * Dropped support for older systems. Minimum requirements now are: o Windows XP o IE 6 SP2 o Firefox 2 o Outlook 2000 * Updated interface http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copernic_Desktop_Search coathanger what is the law about putting a link in my second storage for download of the prior version for members here to download. It is not my primary online storage/backup and it is free, so if they cancel me it is okay? But what are the legal ramifications if I host it and if I provide the link here? I don't want to jeopardize this forum. This post has been edited by saint satin stain: Mar 25 2009, 01:38 AM -------------------- saint satin stain

Hmm...strictly speaking you would need to request permission from Copernic first else there would be a breach in copyright.
I am in fact a reseller in Copernic products and can give anyone 20% off anything -------------------- |

Hmm...strictly speaking you would need to request permission from Copernic first else there would be a breach in copyright. I am in fact a reseller in Copernic products and can give anyone 20% off anything I will consider buying. So far 2.3 build 18 seems sufficient. I'll haul over to Copernic and check the specs. At lot of folk are pssd that Copernic crippled to upgrade, 3. I aint because it's their prerogative. If I find that the paid is not worth it even with 20% off I'll keep 2.3; if I deem the paid worthwhile, there is no better conduit to buy than you. If an app is good, has a free version I use, eventually I buy the paid. I did that with Online Armor. Matousec says Online Armor free is seventh best on its tests; the paid version is number one. Tallemu's free one is great for most folk, but gives an incentive by its performance for folk to buy the paidware. Copernic showed less than optimal judgement by its free offering. But they have the right. That above leads me to post a question about that question above. Look out for it. -------------------- saint satin stain

I decided not to use the free version of Copernic. I figure it's unfair since I am peeved at the company. So far I done okay without a search program using up ram. If you organize your files you don't need a search program. I try to make sure to file items immediately and not let them accumulate.

If you organize your files you don't need a search program. I try to make sure to file items immediately and not let them accumulate. I decided then not to use a search. I don't like the Copernic folk. If they had decided at first not to have those features in the free version, I'd not be angry; but they did, then in an upgrade took them away. Most of my friends stopped using Copernic , use Yahoo or Google. Some bought search programs, but not Copernic. In my little niche of geekdom Copernic is a cuss word. -------------------- saint satin stain
