all the time? Sometimes it changes from one post to another, sometimes it will stay the same for awhile during the day?
Could it be because of my internet provider? I'm on a network at home but it did that before I put up my network. -------------------- ![]() To love is not to look at one another, But to look together in the same direction. |

Your ISP is responsible for your IP. Available IP's are finite, so if your ISP determines yours is not in use for any signifigant period, it may assign it to someone else and assign you a new one when you next access the internet.
My IP hasn't changed in months, probably because ePrompter checks my mail accounts every 15 minutes and my computer is almost always on. It should have nothing to do with your home network. In fact, for security purposes, your home network should be set to run under NETBEUI or IPX/SPX and TCP/IP should be unbound from all local network services. John -------------------- John

I understand what your saying jkp, but it does it when I'm online and posting in forums like this one, it will do it between posts. I seem to have about 4 or 5 IP address's.
The last thing you talked about was like blah blah blah to me, I have no clue what your talking about..... When I installed my router I set a fixed IP for my computer and the other computer, is that what you where talking about? I know how to do and fix stuff on my computer, I just don't know the right words to use!!!!! -------------------- ![]() To love is not to look at one another, But to look together in the same direction. |

That's weird! -------------------- |

I know it's weird! Maybe I should call my phone company to find out why it does that!

Sometimes, what is logged is your proxy server's (be it a transparent, or not) IP address, and not your computer's assigned IP address.
You ISP might be routing all your page requests through a farm of servers, with a different one handling your requests each time. When these servers try to fetch the web pages from the forum server, the server here logs your proxy server's IP address. You can say that it is load balancing technology brought to proxy servers. A famous example using this technique is AOL. -------------------- Ignorant no more
